Preface

For a long time, China’s modern industrial history is one of the most active fields in the study of China’s modern economic history. In terms of data collection, monograph publishing and monograph publishing, the quantity and quality of existing research results are in the forefront. However, among the existing achievements, the number of studies on China’s modern industrial layout is quite small. In addition to the introduction of some relevant theories and preliminary studies in the 1930s and 1940s, and a small number of research articles after the reform and opening up, in other periods, the research in this field is basically blank. Of course, it is objectively difficult to carry out this research.
  Industrial layout is generally referred to as the location selection of economic activities, and the knowledge required spans the humanities and natural sciences. Even if we only study the location selection of industrial layout from the perspective of economic geography, we can't avoid the problems of land, raw materials, energy, capital, labor, technology and knowledge input, natural environment, market environment, industrial environment, policy environment and transportation technology and means. If we consider the particularity of the semi colonial and semi feudal society in modern China, we will have more problems and aspects to consider.

前 言

长期以来，中国近代工业史可说是中国近代经济史研究中最活跃的领域之一。在资料整理、专著出版以及专题论文的发表方面，已有研究成果的数量和质量都位居前列。但是，在已有的成果中，对中国近代工业布局的研究，数量却相当少，除20 世纪三四十年代有过一些相关理论的介绍和初步的研究， 以及改革开放后有过数量不多的研究文章以外，在其他的时期里，这方面的研究基本处于空白状态。当然，开展这方面的研究，客观上有一定的难度。
       工业布局一般被称为经济活动的区位选择，所需的知识横跨人文和自然科学两大领域。即使仅仅从经济地理学的角度来研究工业布局的区位选择问题，土地、原材料、能源、资本、劳动力、技术与知识等要素投入，自然环境、市场环境、产业环境、 政策环境等区域环境和交通技术与手段等三方面的问题就是无法避免的内容，这还是从正常社会的一般情况出发而言，如果考虑到近代中国半殖民地半封建社会的特殊性，则需要考虑的问题和侧面还会更多。
